Leather Gloves

2 May 2014

“The hand is the first tool of the craftsman. It was therefore obvious that he would establish a glove for all his creative capacities. In the beginning, the glove was used to protect the hands from the cold and exterior aggressions; now it is quickly becoming an essential component for outfits. It highlights the feminine beauty; it dignifies the military uniform or the ecclesiastical; and it underlines the elegance of a dandy,” Samad Rezai, president of the association “Métiers d’Art de Paris”.

The glove was a symbol, an ornament, a tradition, then it married into fashion in order to respond to the requirements of each era. The embroidery of Sonia Rykiel, the decor at Hermes – it’s the jewelry which dresses the hands, and sometimes even the forearms.

Many expositors of the Marché de la Mode Vintage pay tribute to the gloves of each era; this is the event for all glove lovers to pick up a unique pair.
